Safe Multisig Setup Guide

Add an extra layer of protection with a Safe multisig as your vault owner. Recommended for large holdings (>$100k).

This is optional. You can create a vault directly in Ante without a multisig. This guide is for users who want maximum security for significant holdings.

Total time:
~20 minutes
Before You Begin
  • A desktop or laptop computer (mobile not recommended)
  • 2-3 wallet addresses that will be signers on your Safe
  • Small amount of ETH for gas fees (~$10-20)
  • Contact information for your guardians
1

Create a Safe Multisig

15 min

A Safe (formerly Gnosis Safe) is the most battle-tested multisig on Ethereum. It will be the owner of your Ante vault, adding an extra layer of protection.

  • Go to safe.global and connect your wallet
  • Click "Create new Safe"
  • Add 2-3 signer addresses (your wallets)
  • Set threshold (we recommend 2-of-3)
  • Deploy your Safe (requires gas)
  • Copy your new Safe address

Important: Write down your Safe address and store it securely. You'll need it in the next step.

2

Create Your Ante Vault

10 min

Now create your Ante vault using your Safe as the owner. This means any vault actions will require multisig approval.

  • Click "Create Vault" in Ante
  • Select your network (same as your Safe)
  • When asked for owner address, paste your Safe address
  • Configure check-in interval (90 days recommended)
  • Set grace period (6 months default)
  • Review and confirm

Note: All vault operations (deposits, withdrawals, rule changes) will need to be signed through your Safe interface.

3

Add Recipients

5 min

Recipients are the people who will receive your assets if you fail to check in and your guardians approve the transfer. This is typically family members or beneficiaries.

  • Go to your vault's People tab
  • Click "Add Recipient"
  • Enter their name and wallet address
  • Optionally add their email for notifications
  • Recipients will receive a notification to accept

Who should be a recipient?

Choose people you want to pass your assets to - spouse, children, or other beneficiaries. They only receive assets after guardians approve a transfer and you fail to check in during the grace period.

4

Add Guardians

5 min

Guardians are trusted people who can help transfer your assets if you become inactive. They don't need a Safe. A simple wallet address works.

  • Go to your vault's People tab
  • Click "Add Guardian"
  • Enter their name and wallet address
  • Set guardian threshold (e.g., 2-of-3 guardians must agree)
  • Guardians will receive a notification to accept

Who should be a guardian?

Choose people you trust who are crypto-savvy enough to use a wallet. Family members, close friends, or trusted advisors work well. They never get access to your funds. They can only initiate transfers to your pre-set recipients.

You're Protected

Once set up, your vault is protected by multiple layers:
